The Marshall Liberal Government has improved access, inclusion and security for South Australians living with a disability.
There are now more places, playgrounds, events and services that are disability friendly. We passed historic legislation, the Disability Inclusion Act 2018, to legalise a framework to support equal access and participation for people with disability. We created more opportunities for people with disability to be part of policy making, and there are now almost 100 Disability Inclusion Plans across state and local government.
We have also implemented some of the strongest safeguards for people with disability ever enacted in South Australia.
We expanded supports available to vulnerable older people to people with disability, including the Adult Safeguarding Unit. We improved safety and security for people in state-run disability homes by installing CCTV. And we have announced a new, nation-first safeguarding app to help more people live safely at home.
Because we know it’s not always easy to navigate a new system, we also funded a new disability advocacy service to help people access the NDIS and ensure they are receiving adequate supports.
We will continue to work every day to ensure South Australians with a disability are protected and supported to live fulfilled lives.
