Attracting and Retaining
Country Doctors

GPs are key to ensuring high-quality health services are delivered in regional South Australia. That’s why our government is investing in attracting and retaining country doctors.

What we'll do

The Marshall Liberal Government is investing an estimated $188 million over two years to attract and retain country doctors.

This represents an over 20% increase in funding which is the most significant investment in rural GPS in a generation.

Key benefits of the agreement include a sign-up bonus of up to $50,000 for a doctor to work in remote areas and more flexibility for country doctors in how they work and charge.

We are already delivering a $20 million Rural Health Workforce Strategy, increasing country cancer services, upgrading regional hospitals and we have committed to doubling the PATS subsidy if we are re-elected.

After being neglected by the former Labor Government, regional South Australians finally have a government that's listening, taking action and delivering better healthcare, closer to home.

What it means for you

  • Ensuring high quality health care services can continue to be delivered in the regions
  • Healthcare in the regions is being future proofed for growing and ageing populations
  • You and your loved ones can get the healthcare you need, closer to home
