Better Correctional
Services

We are ensuring our correctional services continue to strike the right balance between punishment and rehabilitation.

What we said we'd do

Stamp out drugs in prisons and make South Australia’s prisons smoke free.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government has implemented a number of new policies to stamp out drugs in prisons including increased penalties for smuggling contraband and all prisons in the state are now smoke free.

We are protecting the community and preventing re-offending by increasing the number of people subject to monitoring by electronic bracelets and we have expanded prison accommodation, creating jobs in construction in the process.

We have invested in rehabilitation programs, including progressing the case for a new rehabilitation prison and implementing an internationally-awarded program to reduce re-offending by giving prisoners on home detention the tools they need to reintegrate into the community.

What it means for you

  • The community is better protected through enhanced monitoring of prisoners
  • Prisoners have more opportunities to rehabilitate, creating a second chance for them and making our communities safer
  • Local jobs are being created through construction projects
