Health Services

We have provided significant funding for new mental health facilities, programs and services.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government is investing a record $7.85 billion in South Australia’s health system in 21-22 – $1.35 billion more than in the last year of the former Labor government.

This includes a significant investment in mental health services and programs to ensure South Australians can access the services they need in an appropriate setting – which is often community-based rather than in an emergency department.

We've opened the Neurobehavioural Unit at the Repat, developed a new inpatient facility at the Women's and Children's Hospital and opened Australia's first 24-hour Urgent Mental Health Care Centre.

We've established the Borderline Personality Disorder Collaborative, and funded a 16-bed Mental Health Crisis Stabilisation Centre in the northern suburbs, a 20-bed older person's acute mental health unit at Modbury and an increase in psychiatric intensive care bed capacity.

We’ve increased funding for child and adolescent mental health services, community and forensic mental health services and we provided funding for a COVID-19 mental health support package.

What we'll do

A re-elected Marshall Liberal Government will provide more mental health services, improving outcomes and alleviating pressure on hospital EDs through a $134 million package being delivered in partnership with the Federal Government.

We will expand child and youth mental health services, increase support for veterans and Aboriginal people and ensure more people can access the support they need in the most appropriate setting – which is often community based rather than in an emergency department.
