We are keeping sand on our beaches and protecting our whole coastal environment by delivering a new, sand-pumping pipeline while also addressing the long-term factors that cause coastal erosion.

What we said we'd do

Provide an additional $5.2 million for practical measures to better protect our pristine coastline and amazing beaches.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government has invested more than $48 million to protect our 5,067 km long coastline and ensure our beaches continue to have sand.

We are saving one of South Australia’s most popular metropolitan beaches, West Beach, with around 250,000 cubic metres of extra sand to be delivered by the 2021/22 summer. We are also building a sand-pumping pipeline between Semaphore and West Beach to provide a long-term solution to erosion at West Beach.

To keep sand in place naturally and preserve our whole coastal environment, we are constructing three artificial reefs and restoring seagrass meadows and coastal wetlands.

This has the added benefit of boosting fishing and tourism opportunities while also reducing global warming by capturing carbon almost 40 times faster than forests!
