Education

The Marshall Liberal Government is delivering once-in-a-generation education reform and ensuring that every child and young person is supported to fulfil their potential.

What we said we'd do

Improve literacy and numeracy outcomes, re-invigorate the study of language, boost entrepreneurial and skills-based training in schools, address bullying and move year 7 into high school.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government is committed to delivering world-class education for South Australia’s children and young people – from early childhood right through to their first job.

Critically, throughout the COVID pandemic we have worked hard to keep our schools and early childhood services open, and to keep our children learning. South Australia’s children and young people have benefited from having less disruption to their learning than any other students.

Annual education spending is almost $770 million higher than in the former Labor Government’s last year in office. This includes $50.1 million to give South Australia’s littlest learners the best start in life through our Early Learning Strategy.

We’ve transitioned year 7 into high school, hired more teachers, built new schools, set up entrepreneurial programs in high schools, reformed bullying policies and invested heavily in programs that boost language learning.

Under Labor, South Australian kids were below average in every single NAPLAN category. In contrast, our evidence-backed Literacy Guarantee is delivering real improvements in learning outcomes for our students, with improvements in every year level compared to the national average.

We undertook major reforms in TAFE SA which, under Labor, was failing to meet basic training quality standards. And we’ve created a pipeline of skilled workers by turning around the drastic decline in apprenticeship and traineeship commencements that was happening under Labor – creating jobs for today, tomorrow and decades to come.

We’ve delivered high speed internet for every school. And we’re investing $1.5 billion – the largest amount of any state government in history - to build five brand new schools, upgrade more than 100 schools and undertake maintenance at every government school and preschool.

Labor would have you believe that they’re the party that delivers on education but the evidence speaks for itself.
