Tonsley railway line
extended to Finders
University and Hospital

Our Tonsley railway line extension is providing a quicker, more convenient journey for students and hospital staff, visitors and patients.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government extended the Tonsley railway line, created a new Flinders train line, and new Tonsley and Flinders railway stations.

This extension is providing a vital public transport link between the city, Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre and the Tonsley Innovation District.

Before, students, staff, hospital patients and visitors had to struggle to find a carpark, catch a bus or walk the long distance from the Tonsley train station. Now, they can quickly and easily access all the important institutions in the Flinders Precinct from the new, closer railway station.

We have also aded additional late night and weekend services to this line.

This project is part of our record $17.9 billion Building What Matters infrastructure program which is creating thousands of jobs and improving the lives of South Australians.

What it means for you

  • A quicker, more convenient journey for students and hospital staff, visitors and patients
  • Better public transport for local residents with new stations and an enhanced timetable
  • More local jobs
