What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government is undertaking a huge $98 million upgrade of Modbury Hospital, undoing the damage of Labor’s Transforming Health experiment and easing pressure on emergency departments across the state.

We have re-opened a four-bed High Dependency Unit, opened a new Extended Emergency Care Unit, completed a new and expanded surgical ward, established a new Outpatients Department, and built new Palliative Care and Short Stay Medical Units. We have also refurbished the administration area and upgraded the hospital facade.

And we’re not done there – this year’s budget committed $48 million for a new older person’s mental health facility at Modbury.

While Labor’s Transforming Health Plan saw Modbury Hospital and other hospitals downgraded, we are bringing local services back and giving residents in the north-eastern suburbs access to the healthcare they deserve.

This upgrade is not just buildings and beds. It means that, in an emergency, when every minute counts, more patients can be treated locally. It saves lives.

Our major upgrade of Modbury Hospital is part of our record investment in South Australia's health system to fix ramping, ease pressure on emergency departments and deliver better healthcare closer to home.

What we'll do

A re-elected Marshall Liberal Government will deliver an additional $22.5 million upgrade of Modbury Hospital.

We will open a new 16-bed dementia facility – building on the $48 million older persons mental health facility already committed to.

Patients from Northgate House will be moved to this dedicated dementia facility, providing a more appropriate setting and better support for older people in the north east.
