Port Pirie
Hospital Upgrade

We will build a new Emergency Department, a new Mental Health Unit and a new training facility for medical students as part of a huge upgrade of Port Pirie Hospital.

What we'll do

A re-elected Marshall Liberal Government will deliver a $26.1 million upgrade of Port Pirie Hospital – delivering a brand-new Emergency Department, a new short stay crisis Mental Health Unit and more.

The new ED will have 50% more treatment bays, be staffed 24/7 and will have the provision for short stay beds – which the current ED lacks.

We will also build a new $1.1 million clinical health simulation lab to allow local nursing students to complete their training in Port Pirie without having to leave their families to study.

This means more nurses for the region.

This upgrade builds on our other important regional health commitments including $188 million to attract and retain country doctors, upgrading helipads used for medical emergencies, and doubling the PATS subsidy.

After being neglected by the former Labor Government, regional South Australians finally have a government that's listening, taking action and delivering better healthcare, closer to home.

What it means for you

  • In an emergency, more patients can get the care they need locally
  • Healthcare in the regions is being future proofed for growing and ageing populations
  • You and your loved ones can get the healthcare you need, closer to home
