Record Investment
in National Parks
& Open Spaces

The Marshall Liberal Government is investing a record amount in South Australia's parks, improving our open spaces and creating jobs in the process.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government is investing a record amount in South Australia’s parks – the highest amount in our state’s history!

We are revitalising parks across the state from the Flinders Ranges to Kangaroo Island, protecting our environment while also driving increased eco-tourism and creating local jobs.

We are undertaking once-in-a-lifetime projects such as the creation of Adelaide’s second metropolitan national park – Glenthorne – as well as opening up our reservoirs for recreational activities and increasing the number of park rangers by almost 50%.

We have built and funded a range of projects from new visitor facilities and campgrounds to adventure experiences such as mountain biking and hiking trails.

We have increased the number of national parks from 21 to 29, doubled the area protected to significantly boost conservation efforts and Adelaide has just been recognised as the world’s second National Park City (after London)!

Labor wants you to think that they’re the party that cares about the environment but, while they were in government, they slashed the Environment Department budget and ripped money out of our parks. In contrast, the Marshall Liberal Government is investing record amounts for practical projects that deliver real results.

What it means for you

  • You have access to beautiful open spaces, like our reservoirs, that were previously locked away
  • Our environment is preserved and protected for you now and for future generations
  • Increased nature-based tourism is creating more jobs for South Australians
