Local Jobs

The Marshall Liberal Government has built new tourism infrastructure, attracted new and exciting events to SA and supported tourism businesses through COVID-19.

What we've done

The Marshall Liberal Government has invested significantly in South Australia’s tourism industry, supporting businesses, protecting jobs and ensuring COVID-19 restrictions do not stay in place for one day longer than necessary.

Within two years of coming to government, annual tourism spending had increased from $6.8 billion to $8.1 billion, employing over 40,000 people across 18,000 local businesses.

We built new tourism infrastructure and supported private tourism investment, doubled the state’s Event Bid Fund and increased marketing to boost the number of visitors to SA, filling our hotels, restaurants and shops.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we stood shoulder to shoulder with businesses, providing millions in direct financial support. Affected businesses could access up to $20,000 in cash grants and our ‘Great State Voucher’ scheme saw almost $65 million flow into the pockets of hard-working businesses.

Now, as we prepare to re-open to the world, we will continue to implement our plan to grow the tourism industry to $12.8 billion by 2030, creating an additional 16,000 jobs.
